How to migrate sites

Our theme is using Unyson framework which comes with its own extensions and therefore requires special backup process.

One of extensions is Backup and Demo Content. This allows not just to backup and restore your site on actual site, but also to migrate site from one domain to another. Please follow these simple rules:

1. [new site] install the same version of WordPress on new domain as one you have on the old one
2. [new site] if you used any plugins beside those recommended by theme, please install them, too.
3. [old site] open wp-config.php on your old site and set WP_DEBUG to be true:

define('WP_DEBUG', true);

4. [old site] Before creating a Content Backup for Demo Install use a plugin to remove post revisions. WP Optimize is very good choice.
5. [old site]  go to Tools > Backup
6. [old site] Hit Create Content Backup Now and wait several minutes (it depends on number of media files and number of posts)
7. [old site] Download the latest backup (it will be listed under “Archives” header)
8. [new site] Create folder {theme}/demo-content/{demo-name}/ (where {theme} is theme folder and {demo-name} is desirable name of your demo content) and extract the zip in it.
9. [new site] Create {theme}/demo-content/{demo-name}/manifest.php with the following contents:

<?php

if (!defined('FW')) die('Forbidden');
/**
 * @var string $uri Demo directory url
 */

$manifest = array();
$manifest['title'] = __('Awesome Demo', 'fw');
$manifest['screenshot'] = $uri . '/screenshot.png';
$manifest['preview_link'] = 'https://your-site.com/demo/awesome';

?>

Screenshot file must be located in the same folder as manifest.php, while preview link is optional. Demo title can be changed to fit your needs.

10. [new site]  Go to Tools > Demo Content Install menu in the WordPress admin. The demo(s) should be listed on that page.

More information regarding this extension can be found on this URL: http://manual.unyson.io/en/latest/extension/backups/index.html

Other values are self-explanatory.

Problem with demo content import

If you receive this message during import of demo content:

Oops, Unyson Backup requires PHP Zip module but it is not enabled on your server. If you are not familiar with PHP Zip module, please contact your hosting provider.

just make sure to enable zip extension on your server. Some providers disable this module by default, but very often there is an option on cPanel which allows you to enable it with one simple click. However, if there is no such feature, you will need to contact your hosting provider as suggested in alert message and ask to enable zip extension on your server. More details can be found here

Theme documentation

Your documentation contains only installation and demo import instructions. Where can I see how to use page builder or to create a slider?

Our political themes are using Unyson page builder and its extensions. You can find these instructions here: http://docs.themefuse.com/exposure/your-theme/shortcodes/overview (our shortcodes are either intuitive or explained in knowledgebase).

Regarding slider, our themes (except Campaign) are using Slider Revolution. Manual is here: https://www.themepunch.com/revslider-doc/slider-revolution-documentation/

If you need explanation regarding things not explained in our knowledgebase or above provided manuals, feel free to raise a ticket with your question.

Google maps – API code for page builder

Google has changed Google Maps API again, so in order to use our page builder shortcode or maps in events, you will need to obtain API key just for your site. Please check this article.

After you do that, you will be able to use it in our page builder. When adding new map or editing existing one, make sure to populate field. Before save, please make sure to disable caching plugins on your site or server.

Site is not loading after demo import

After successful installation of Candidate16 theme (version 3) and all theme related plugins and demo import – site gets in a loop and not being loaded in the front-end. At the same time, you can use admin dashboard without problems.

This error is caused by a small bug in timeline script which stops page loading  and this happens only if you don’t have upcoming events (and demo is created a while ago and therefore contains only past events). You have two options:

  1. create at least one upcoming events
  2. disable timeline (please check screenshot below)

Post Carousel – RTL fix

If you try to use post carousel page builder element on your RTL site, you’ve probably noticed some problems (either carousel doesn’t load properly or it works with glitches).

This is a problem with Slick carousel script which is used under the hood.

The solution is very simple. Please follow these instructions:

  1. open framework-customizations/extensions/shortcodes/shortcodes/tb-carousel/views/view.php
  2. find this line
slidesToShow: 3,

and above it add this one:

rtl: true,

Save and test.

NOTE: if you plan to update the theme on your site, please be aware that this change will disappear. So, we strongly recommend to use the child theme and recreate path given in step 1. Then you will change framework-customizations/extensions/shortcodes/shortcodes/tb-carousel/views/view.php from the child theme.
